Cutting your own hair with hair clippers isn't difficult; you can do it yourself as long as you master the basic steps and techniques. Here is a simple and practical guide:
I. Preparation
▷ Gather your tools
Hair clippers (fully charged or plugged in)
Complete set of guard combs (numbered from shortest to longest, e.g., #1, #3, #6)
Blade lubricant, small brush (for cleaning hair clippings)
Two mirrors (to check the back of your head)
Cape or old towel (to prevent hair clippings from irritating your neck)
▷ Hair Pre-treatment
Wash and completely dry your hair (wet hair will jam the blades)
Comb your hair to remove tangles
II. Haircutting Steps
▷ Step 1: Setting the Length
Beginner's recommendation:
Use the #3 guard comb (approximately 9mm) for the sides
Use the #6 guard comb (approximately 18mm) for the top
Attach the guard comb: Snap it onto the blade, a "click" sound confirms it's securely attached
▷ Step 2: Trimming the Sides & Back of the Head
Starting from the lowest hairline, push the clippers upwards against the scalp (like mowing a lawn)
Keep the blade against the head shape throughout, rotating your wrist at curves
Trim the back of the head in three sections:
Bottom section: Push upwards from the neck to the earlobe height
Middle section: From the earlobe to the ear tip height
Top section: From the ear tip to the transition area at the top of the head
▷ Step 3: Trimming the Top
Switch to a longer guard comb (e.g., #6)
Push the clippers against the hair growth direction from the roots (to increase volume)
Trim in intersecting sections:
First, from the left ear to the right ear
Then, from the forehead to the back of the head
▷ Step 4: Trimming the Edges (Optional)
Remove the guard comb, and use the edge of the clipper blade:
Trim the hairline (forehead/neck area)
Clean up stray hairs around the ears
Note: Lightly touch the skin with the blade, avoid pressing down
III. Safety Precautions
▷ Be careful around bony areas:
Reduce pressure on the protruding areas of the back of the head and above the ears
Use your fingers to protect your earlobes when trimming sideburns
▷ Stop if the blade overheats:
After 10 minutes of continuous use, turn it off and let it rest for 2 minutes
Stop using if the blade feels hot to the touch
▷ Stop immediately if hair gets caught:
If you hear the machine sound change or hair gets caught: → Turn off the device → Clean the blades with a brush before continuing.
IV. Maintenance after use
▷ Cleaning stray hairs:
After turning off the device, use a small brush to clean the hair between the blades.
▷ Applying lubricating oil:
Apply 1 drop of special oil to the blades and run the device for 10 seconds.
Storage:
Attach the protective comb to prevent damage.
In humid areas, place a desiccant packet in the storage case to prevent rust.
